Progress Update on Christmas Eve 2010

by Joseph on December 24, 2010

I’m now intent on setting a program up where I now live in Kuching, Malaysia, which will be along the lines of helping local people to work online to see a good income, given time and given perseverance. Even a mere couple of hundred dollars a month is good income for some folks here, if on a part time basis then that’s a real nice boost to a salary which may only be $200 a month for full time work anyways.
.
Imagine being able to double your income just by doing a few hours work a week.

For sure its possible I’m in the process of biting off more than I can chew. But at the same time there is the old saying “strike while the iron is hot!”. My intentions are good – I need to do this!
I approached Cyril Dason who is the front man of Sarwak Bloggers (an immesely capable and highly motivated and enthusiastic guy he is too! If I had a staff and needed a social media rep, then I would be strongly considering Cyril to do that job for me!) and I asked if it may be possible to gain some government funding, or some local company funding.
.
After all, this is going to benefit the local community so why not expect to see a support network coming from either local companies or the government? Why should it be up to me to invest all my own funds to see the betterment of the Kuching community at large? Am I not doing enough already by offering a huge amount of my time over the next year to hopefully ensure the success of those that are involved in this initiative?
.
I would have no issues in investing my own money in this. I just don’t have money enough to invest right now. But even if no backers come forth, I am thoroughly intent on going forward with this. After all, regular readers on this blog know full well that I am a headstrong, very stubborn, forward moving sorta bloke, don’t you?;-) And I intend very much to utilize those traits in this case too!
.
Maybe I should get more involved in politics. But no. I remember to some extent what was said to Tim Ferris (of “4 Hour Work Week” fame) by one of his friends who is an eminenent Doctor and more besides. When Tim mentioned to her that he would really like to pursue his doctorate and thus become a medical doctor on graduation, she said to him in return (after both parties had consumed wine to a copious degree) (sorry, I can’t quote exact words but I’ll try my best…) “Tim, I admire you for wanting to become a doctor, but you would be best served as remaining a “dark knight” so you can spread the word freely without having to worry about your own reputation being tarnished as a medical doctor”.
.
I am no Tim Ferris, as much as I admire the man! But I am motivated to do what I can to help some people to gain more control over their level of income and thus hopefully this will improve their standards of living.
.
I know for a fact that if someone had knocked on my door in days gone by and asked me would I be interested in learning how to make a very good living online with little investment involved, I would have well and truly jumped at the chance and my excitement levels would have been to sky high!!
.
I’m no politician anyhow, so that job would be out for me!
Okay, that’s enough on that subject – I don’t want to bore you all to tears, lol!
.
.
Progress with Kevin?
.
We’ve analyzed his sites and I’ve got it down to just the two that we should really focus our energies on. In fact its three sites, but one I shall let him do himself. Its a good way to learn.
I’ll show him and help him a lot (by outsourcing the content writing and perhaps some link building too) with the two sites, and he can work the other site in a similar fashion but without my input.
.
I’ve already outsourced for a couple of articles to be spun – one for each site. We shall then use these firstly in the Article Marketing Robot (links to a post about this product) software.
And I’ll probably outsource to get some Unique Article Wizard (links to product) submissions with some freshly spun content which I shall outsource later in the week.
.
Michelle over on http://passiveincomeonlineblog.com mentioned about some software she would perhaps invest in (thanks for the tip Michelle!). I’ve taken up a trial on that and see how things go. The trial provides 300 profile links a day to websites of your choice.
.
Actually, the setting up of this is a sinch. Its a real cool tool in that its so easy to work with. Plus the support is excellent – real fast at replying to any queries – I’ve used support 4 times now and each time I get an email reply within a couple of hours!
.
Plus, it automatically provides a list of the domains where the links have been placed which is great because you can then go ahead and ping them all in something like this mass pinger http://pingdevice.com/ which is an excellent piece of kit!
.
What’s the name of this new tool? Its called BlastBlank. Check it out by clicking on the link – its not affiliated that link – there is no aff program but I checked with them and they said there will be one sometime next year.
.
I’m really enjoying the ease of use factor so let’s hope that it works well in the rankings department. Mind you, its the sort of tool that you can merely use to mix up your linking campaigns so its going to prove very useful for that, even if its not fantastic at improving rankings if used alone (I would never use it alone, but I know that some folks do and they said its fairly effective, which is good to know!).
.
So I’ll be utilizing this tool in Kevin’s campaigns also.
.
So far I’ve not had time to think about other sites we may wish to construct. I’ll probably want to keep the number pretty low, and only choose domains that look like they’ve got real potential for fairly high income. By “high” I mean anything above $200 US a month, and generally a lot more than that.
.
This is how I am now building up my own sites – dropping the lower income sites and focusing on the higher income areas, which involves buying up a few new domains too.
.
.
In fact, I’ve got a whole lot to discuss with you because I’ve been real busy. But I don’t want to add too much content to one post so that will have to wait for now.
.
Oh, we’ve not started the Warrior Forum thread for Kevin yet. I thought it may be better to wait until we are fully up and running and then start posting. I’m a bit nervy of doing this, but I think it makes a lot of sense to go forth with the idea.
.
Actually, I’m pleased with progress with Kevin’s project. Its really coming together even though we’ve only been at it for a week. Currenly he’s posting up the outsourced spun articles to some do-follow article directories and to Web 2.0′s, so we can then bomb those with lots of backlinks. Kind of ideal to use BlastBank for that!
.
.
And, would you believe this – I’ve got a joint venture up and going with my mate Chris. Chris is the young man who followed the 40 Day Challenge techniques and then sold his site for a cool $1000 US.
.
Even though he is currently studying at college, he’s a real hard worker and his skills compliment my own very well – he likes designing sites and can write content really nicely.
.
I don’t like doing anything other than outsourcing pretty much everything that I can (I’m becoming much like Tyrone Shum it seems), and I do like posting on my blog here, hence sometimes my posts are so long icon wink Progress Update on Christmas Eve 2010
.
So I found this very hot niche that potentially can see us making a superb income, or indeed we may flip the site because Chris is becoming quite the pro on doing that. So this is thoroughly exciting!
.
.
I almost forgot – Chris mentioned to me that my SEO tips blog – yes, this one – looked a bit “flat”. He said the layout is not so good, whereas Pat Flynn’s is much better. I know Pat got a company in to re-design his blog and yes – it looks really good – very clean layout!
.
Well, I thought about this and concluded that I do need to do something. Its a tad messy I think. So I’ve got Andrew Rondeau in to consult for me – Andrew from We Build Your Blog.
.
You can see already there are a few changes, with a few more to be introduced in the coming weeks.
.
Nothing major, just a tidy up really. You can see a tab at top which leads to a page about my income from the past 5 month, soon to be six. This is what Pat Flynn has, and quite frankly, anything he does is well worth considering for my blog. That’s my opinion anyhow. He’s a thoroughly intelligent chap and its no wonder he makes so much money online!
.
He – Pat – even sent me something in the post a while back due to the fact he used my Warriors 40 Day Challenge to rank his new site up at number 1 in Google for his main keyword phrase. That’s a real decent thing to do! Only problem is that I think the parcel has got lost in the post. Imagine if its a Rolex watch? Oh how nice! Hahaha!! But not hahaha if its got lost!
.
.
How about income for this month?
.
Well, its not been so great, considering there should have been a whole lot of Christmas sales.
And I’ll tell you partly why its not been so great. Google have trounced a couple of my high earning sites – yes, once again. So income from those, which comes from both eBay and from AdSense is down rather a lot.
.
Oh, that reminds me to get back to a post on my Warrior Forum Challenge thread. A chap has seen the same probblem with one of his high earners as I am seeing with my own. Google de-rank.
.
Nevertheless, its been okay up till today. I doubt its going to remain that way though. End of the Christmas spend is about to take place, so its really a case of relying on the first 3 and a half weeks of this month for income. January is going to be dead, so that’s not something to look forward to!
.
One real nice thing though – because my income from eBay was almost £1000 UK sterling last month, eBay gave me a bonus. An extra £85 which is about $134 US dollars. And the same is going to happen this month, but its going to be a little more because I have actually already broken the £1000 income mark from my eBay affiliate sales, which was to be expected.
.
Although it would have been a bit higher but for the Google de-rank on both those sites.
I’ll probably not reach last month’s income due to the site de-ranking business, but also because I don’t want to sell any more sites right now. So I’m 500 bucks short this month because of that. Last month was a real boom month compared to most months, so to expect to keep up with that may be expecting a little too much just yet. I mean, usually I make an extra 300 bucks each month in comparison to the previous month, but last month was over a thousand above October income.
.
.
Oh, one thing that is going well for me is Amazon. I’ve got over $100 in affiliate sales so far this month, where I normally see a mere $10 to $20 US per month (even last month was very low). I sense that Amazon sales are better than eBay sales at Christmas time. I’ve only got about 6 or 7 sites hooked up to Amazon these days so that’s good sales volume there – I think the buying ratio is something like 3.97% which is far higher than any other month for me.
.
Mind you, I did get a writer to do a fair amount of backlinking on those sites and she was doing that for about 5 weeks. So their rankings have been really good this year and its now paying off.
.
But most of those sites I will possibly just drop as the domains come up for renewal. Sales through the year for those sites are pretty abysmal. I’ve got a further 3 sites up for renewal in the next 10 days – I’m dropping all of them too.
.
.
Okay, I’m out tonight to one of the Kuching bars which is owned in part by my girlfriend’s uncle. I think we are then going to her hotel and we’ll see in Christmas day there – its a lovely place to sit outside and watch the stars through the trees (whilst getting drunk and talking nonsense icon wink Progress Update on Christmas Eve 2010 ).
.
Then tomorrow we’ve been invited to a slap up meal which is mainly fresh salmon, tiger prawns, crab, lobster and the like. I’m not much of a fish eater, but I do love to see fresh fish and crabs – they are really lovely to see and to smell. Hopefully there will be a few of my friends there too so we can have a good chat and sip some fake Champagne!
.
I wish to you a very happy Christmas Day when it comes to your part of the world!
.
Kind regards and thanks for reading this post!
.
Comments are always welcome!

PS. I just received an email from Yaro Starak. He’s offering his Membership Site Mastermind coaching program at a very much reduced price, as long as you sign up pre to New Years Day.
I signed up to this course when I first got started in internet marketing. I think it was the first online course I did, but due to the price I stopped doing it after the first month. And I wish I had not! I suspect I would be far further forward in IM than I am now if I had followed through with this course!
.
Yaro is a real expert at making money online through internet marketing, and thus is surely one of the best coaches in this game!
.
Price normally is a one time fee of $747, whereas now its $297! Or you can pay by 4 monthly installments of $97. I’m tempted to join up again myself!
.
Here is the link again – its an affiliate link. No harm in taking a look at what’s on offer, is there?

Hi Joseph,
I followed you over from the WF, where I have been captivated by your 40 day thread (I was working but got side tracked).
The work I was doing was a bit of SEO believe it or not, I am hooked by it. I am worried I am becoming a geek. Not that there is anything wrong with that. I seem to have a similar technique to you, using web 2.0 as “Anchors” and bombarding them with links instead of my money sites.
The reason I came here to comment is to say Thank you. No.1 you are a captivating writer. 2. British. 3. A bloody decent person.
It is such a shame that the IM world is full of B*******g idiots.
So hats off to you Joseph. I am going back now to the WF to read some more.

Hi Pete, very kind of you to say all that you have, thank you!

I think that using web 2.0s and such sites as anchors or buffers is a very valuable approach, particularly these days when it seems that Google are getting more and more sensitive to the velocity of backlinking to immature private domains (or even many that are more mature).

Happy you find my writing captivating Pete. I went totally with the “flow” on the Warriors thread and simply wrote things down as they came to mind – happens like that when you are really excited by the subject matter. Yup, I’m a Brit for sure, and thankfully not living there right now – its way too cold for my liking ;-)

It is a shame that the IM world is filled with “blaggards” (a good old British word!), but on the other hand, that makes the decent IM folks stand out more from the crowd.

Hope you enjoy the rest of the read on Warriors Pete, and thanks again for taking the time to let me know your thoughts!

Regards
Joseph

Hello Joseph,

I’ve been lurking for a while, first found you on Pat Flynn’s site, then checked out your 40 day challenge on warrior forum and have been lurking on your site ever since. Great info you provide and it’s all been very well appreciated.
I’m a relative newbee, I also teach English in Ukraine. I’m trying to develop other sources of income which will make me not only location independent but income independent too. IM is fascinating yet frustrating at the same time. I understand that working online can be a lonely affair so sites like yours are great places to meet, share and generally connect with others in the same boat. Again, I appreciate your attempts at this with your work.

Pat’s dual niche challenge was great, he traced his niche process and documented it using similar if not the same techniques you did on Warrior, but he left a few gaps, fair enough I guess, I still highly value his efforts. I have Market Samurai and reversed engineered his link structure and found that many of his high PR links came from blog commenting(something which he left out in his strategy) yet most seemed to be no-follow ,yet were counted in MS in his backlink structure, any thoughts on that and the whole do follow/no follow argument?

Also, I’m trying to implement your strategy by building a backling profile using Web 2.0, profile links, article directories and blog commenting (all quite time consuming doing it myself, but I feel is necessary in order to learn to process) however, when I run MS, only one or two backlinks are being counted, yet I have posted content on over 20 web 2.0 sites like squiddo, but none are showing. I’ve tried pinging them with ping o matic and the site you had just recommended, still no luck. What more can I do to get them indexed? Any suggestions?
I’m doing it all myself and the only tools I’ve purchased so far have been Rapid Rewriter for spinning(by Matt Carter, good piece of Kit, he even threw in his backlink blueprint video series, great stuff and well worth the $100 I spent) and Market Samurai, again no complaints. I am hesitant on purchasing more tools like UAW and BB although both seem highly recommended. I’m also holding off on outsourcing, even though money isn’t a real issue with me. However I just want to do the whole process from the bottom up to learn how it’s done and once I start to make a little money and see what works, then go about investing in more kit and possible outsourcing.

Anyway, just checking and again, to say thank you.

I’m looking forward to your future posts.

Happy holidays and best regards,
David

Joseph December 29, 2010 at 11:55 am

Hi David, thanks for coming by and feeding back to me where you are at and what you are intent on doing in future!

Very wise, very wise! You’d prefer to learn this IM and SEO game from the ground up for yourself by actually doing everything yourself, and then you may well begin to invest in outsourcing (and more tools than you currently use). I made the mistake 2 years ago now of outsourcing a lot of stuff to the Philippines when I myself did not yet have a game plan or nearly enough knowledge of how to make money at IM. It was an expensive lesson – investing around $1400 US a month in outsourcing and did not ever gain much income in return. But it was a learning process and it all adds up. However, if I could turn back time I would do things your way!

I can guess the Ukraine is really, really cold right now. I spent one Christmas and New Year in Moscow and then another in a city called Ulyanovsk which lies on the banks of the River Volga. Very beautiful to see the snow lying all around but I’ve never before experienced temperatures of minus 26 degrees centigrade and I never want to again! The vodka helped a lot though! ;-)

Working online for me is a very lonely affair – you are quite right about that David. That’s part of my game plan for 2011 though – put together some free classes in the locality of where I am now to teach folks how to make a really good passive income. Hands-on classes that is, so I’ll be much more involved in the social world and not merely in the online world all the time.

Pat is fantastic at what he does but he is not (as of yet) a pure SEO guy. Hence he possibly left gaps in his line of attack due to that, or indeed – maybe he preferred to keep some things quiet, which is perfectly fine, lol! But I’m not sure why he would target no-do-follow blogs to comment on as the value in doing so is not going to be nearly as effective as would be do-follow backlinking. I still believe this is the case where Google are concerned, although you can argue this with regards to Yahoo! and Bing. There is of course value in gaining no-do-follow backlinks for ranking in all three big search engines, but to actively seek them in blog commenting makes not too much sense to me – not to greatly enhance Google rankings anyhow. There are easier and less time-consuming ways to achieve no-do-follow backlinks, sure you would agree.

Yes, building up links with Web 2.0s and all the buffer layer stuff is very time consuming. What I have recently done is outsource the account creation part and also some of the article spinning part, and then I’ll post the content myself. Still time consuming but a little faster than doing everything myself, plus I can be very sure that the links are what they should be and that everything is implemented correctly (and also that my Web 2.0s have a really good chance of longer term survival and that they will not simply be taken down for web spamming – and that in itself is a very important aspect of using this method of backlinking). Some folks would of course argue this is not good use of time, and I agree. But January is going to be a tight month because of low IM income levels, so its wise to take precautionary moves earlier on, I think.

Just because your links are not showing in Market Samurai or in Yahoo! Search Engine does not mean they are not there David. I know for a fact that with some of my sites only about a sixth of the links will ever show, and often I would imagine its even less than that. Once you begin to get your backlinks to your anchor layer, all your anchor layer (Web 2.0s etc.) will definitely be indexed. Its not something to worry about.

I think that’s covered your points David. If there is anything else then do let me know.

I’ve got a real cool post coming up for the blog here, but I will wait until New Year’s Day to post it. Yup, you guessed it – its about December’s income and my New Year’s “special” message for the coming year. Mindset and digging deep within to make the year a real success with regards internet marketing.

Best wishes David and do keep on visiting the blog!

Thanks again!

Joseph

Quick questions:

How much was Chris’ site making (monthly) at the point he sold it for $1,000 ?

What’s this Web2.0 buffer layer your talkof? It went straight over my head lol.

I hope you had a great New Year out there!

Hi Ben, re Chris’ site – not sure, I’ll ask him and get back to you. I know though that he had it ranked at 4th in Google for his main keywrd term, which was not particularly high end. 2k exact searches a month global, if I’m not mistaken. Good money to make for a fairly low search volume, but Chris is very good at site design and he makes a real effort with this, which is bound to help the sale along a bit.

Aha – so you did not read up on my Warrior Forum 40 Day Challenge. The Web 2.0 buffers is the method I used to rank the Twilight posterz site top 5 in Google within 40 days. Its a strong method to rank web pages without worrying much about sandboxing in Google – Google are becoming very sensitive these days and its easy to end up sandboxing for many months.

I did have a pleasant New Year, yes. I’m meeting up with an English buddy tonight for a drink and a chat. He’s just come back from Manchester to Kuching, having spent Christmas and NY over in the UK. Hope you too had a fine time, Ben!

Joseph

Ben January 9, 2011 at 6:10 pm

2k global [Exact] searches ? Wow. That’s not much at all, what market was he aiming for geographically, I mean, what country? Or just the whole of the English speaking world in general?

Unfortunately no, I haven’t read the thread. I’ve flicked through a few posts on ‘a’ thread with your product at the top, but not sure if that is ‘the’ thread as it’s only two pages long.

Most of my family are from Manc :/ Haha.

I’ve emailed your ymail ;)

Joseph January 10, 2011 at 2:57 am

I think that was mainly based on the US, but yes – English speaking world on the whole. Ooops I forgot to ask Chris how much that site was making when he sold it. I’ll email him now Ben. Goes to show that you do not have to target huge search volume numbers to make very good money at this game!
Your family are from Manchester? My English buddy whom I spent some time with last night – he’s a Liverpool FC follower, I’m a Man Utd follower. Hmmm… I guess I won out there then – Man Utd 1 | Liverpool 0 :-)

Joseph January 10, 2011 at 3:47 am

Here you go Ben, this is the answer I received form Chris regards to site he sold on Flippa…

“Hmm…. good ole gold miners: If I remember correctly that site was making about $40-$50 adsense with a couple of $60 sales on a clickbank products every other month. So, some months were better than others. On avg I would estimate that it was about $70-$90 a month. The lady who bought it loves it and I had multiple people contact me after the auction wanting to pay more than the 1k (they were asleep when it went for the BIN). I do remember that I was initially very disappointed b/c on the last day it was only bidded up to about $300 but around people kept extending it through the entire night and I finally lowered the BIN from 2k to 1k. Once I did this it literally got scooped up within 5 min”.

Ben January 10, 2011 at 10:16 am

Lol…not a gold miner, just a very keen learner ;) Hehe.
So it did sell for nearly 10x the average monthly income (that was what I was looking for).

Thankyou very much Jo!

Ben.

Joseph January 10, 2011 at 10:29 am

I remember Ben when Chris first emailed me the idea that he was developing this gold miners site. I thought to myself – “what the heck?”. But yet he went on to sell this thing for a grand in US.

Yes, 10 times the average monthly income seems to be a reasonable assumption to base your potential income stats on.

As a sidenote. I had a friend (a police officer who used to body guard for Princess Anne) some long while back. He moved up from London to where I was living at the time – west coast of Scotland, in a place called Sanqhar (I was working with Scotlands Wildlife Reserve). He bought a beautiful cottage in a gorgeous part of the world – in a valley near Leadhills. He then set up a business teaching people how to find gold in rivers – gold panning. So, yes Ben, there is even to this day “gold in them there hills!” And even in the UK.
