GOOGLE, Yahoo!, Bing.com | READ THIS – this affects YOU!

by Joseph on June 18, 2010

I just read this really good email I received a short time ago today about Google and Yahoo and Bing and Mayday algorithm change. Don’t worry I will not bore you with the whole thing and I’m not going to bleat on about this Google algo for too much longer. Its very, very important that we all understand it however, as it could totally make or totally break our online ventures! Make no mistake about that, please.

Okay, the main points were this in very brief format…

- Yahoo is going the way of Bing.com with regards to SERP results.

Yahoo loves loadsa backlinks of all sorts and you tend to rank high in Yahoo by getting ‘em.

Apparently (I say apparently as I have no idea what Bing.com likes when it comes to ranking with them – all I do know is that I love the images they have on their search page!!) Bing likes ‘logical’ navigation menus and tabs that are crystal clear. Well, Yahoo! is gonna be going for a similar tact in the coming weeks and months (and please do not ask me to explain what ‘logical’ means here – logic defies me!).

More about this in times to come.

Notice the new upgrade to WordPress.org today? WordPress 3.0 is now out – its called “Thelonius“. Its got some rather hefty changes too, in comparison to any release made up till now. We’ll be talking more about this upgrade over the coming weeks – should be fun, I think!

On to the Google algorithm change, and this is very interesting and what I read from a highly reliable source it must be added!

This short list is about building your backlinks that is almost totally sure to have Google enjoying your every move!

- do not rely on any one or two sources for your backlinks! (Mentioned time and again on this blog and on my Warrior Forum thread!).

- vary your anchor text quite a lot – do not just focus on your primary keyword phrase. Again, I keep on drumming that, so no excuses.

- vary up the pages and posts that you link back to – not all links to one page. Keep ‘em coming to a nice variety of your inner pages too. Yup!

- ask your own blog or site visitors to link back to you. That means “ask!”. Ok, got me on that one – I usually ask for comments from you gents and ladies, not for a link back. Can you link back to me please? Anchor text would (for now) be thus…

- do not rush this SEO stuff. Its not a race. Just take it easy and trust that the effort you make now is going to pay off in times to come! Google do not like to see a rush – they’ll whack your site for it, just like they have one of my own today haha!

Yes, I’ve been caught out on one that I’ve been linking to over the past week on and off – went a bit ‘hot’ on the backlinking game and my site has been temporarily FRIED.

No worries, I expect to see it right back up at the top soon enough.

- try to get authority links. What are authority links? There are various interpretations but here are a few of my own…

- a link from a .edu website
- a link from a .gov website
- a link from a high Google PR page (providing there are not lots of links out besides your own)

- a link from a site that is ranking high in Google SERPS that is in your general niche area. So for example, say you were blogging in the subject area of movies – new releases at the box office. Well, you could go to a sub niche area such as Twilight saga and get a nice link from a top ten site that is ranking for say “Twilight poster”. Haha – I only charge $25 a link!

Those are just a few, there are no doubt other “authority” links to be had from a variety of sources.

So what da ya think to it? I’m loving it actually! Its what I preach and I love to see this info coming from someone else who is very authoritarian in the world of internet marketing and SEO!

-

In conclusion – comments are ALWAYS very much appreciated! And, please link to this website using one of the afore mentioned keyword phrases – you simply will not regret it! Thanks indeed!

Regards!
Joseph

Should have added this earlier, but nevertheless, its here now…

Be very careful regards to your social bookmarking links! Google are not looking fondly on those now, unless they are gentle paced and not spammy in the slightest! I would say thus -

if you add in regular fresh content to your blog or web site, then yes, by all means do submit regularly to social bookmarking sites (not a whole chain of them in one go – drip feed if you can!).

There is no harm in that. Its merely letting others know you have fresh and good quality content on offer. That is to be encouraged whole-heartedly!
