The Philippines – Photographs from a Different Angle

I’ll have a new post about Facebook coming along soon, but for now, I wanted to share some more with you about the Philippines – more specifically, Lapu Lapu, which is part of Cebu.

This blog post is a follow-up to yesterday’s moaning session which can be found here. This post is a more graphical account. Hope you enjoy!

The images were taken with my old and very compact Canon Ixus since I no longer possess the Olympus DSLR icon sad The Philippines Photographs from a Different Angle

In the local department store here in Lapu Lapu they sell a range of basketballs. Basketball being the main sporting pastime in the Philippines. This display caught my eye…

Life in the Philippines – Its Not all a Bed of Jasmines

Sampaguita Life in the Philippines Its Not all a Bed of JasminesJasmine – or more technically correct, the Sampaguita – is the national flower of the Philippines.

Anyhow, yeah, I’m now in the the Philippines and I was thinking it would be a bit similar to Kuching, Malaysia.

Not a bit of it! Its TOTALLY different, other than the very high humidity and temperatures. Oh, and the fruit on offer here is similar to that of Malaysia.

I’m located in Cebu – a place called Lapu Lapu, to be more exact. Its busy here, the roads are ALWAYS busy! I went out this morning at about 5.15am – its Sunday morning and in most parts of the world at 5.15am on a Sunday, it would be dead quiet. But not here – the roads were jam packed with tricycles (kinda like a motorbike taxi) and cars, many of the drivers were intent on horning each other.

Filipino Tricycle

In Malaysia – out-with Kuala Lumpur anyhow – if you horn someone, its regarded as being very aggressive. I know it cos I used to embarras my girlfriend regularly by slamming on the horn when some idiot driver cut me up. Darn nuisance so they are – I’d be thinking “learn how to drive properly you useless w..ker, or don’t drive at all“!

Here in the Fils, everyone horns everyone – its more like Italy or Malta or Bangkok I think, where its much about letting other folks know you are there. But it gets to the point where you think enough is enough.

The roads here are incredibly dusty. There are no pavements, even in the center of the town. Quite honestly, you take your life in your hands when you walk the streets since it would be so easy to get mown down by a passing tricycle or car.

Armed guards are employed to patrol shopping precincts and banks. In fact, the other day I noticed this guy who was very smartly dressed – shirt, tie, etc. He was wearing sunglasses and was armed with a holstered pistol and what appeared to be a shotgun. This is the thing though – he was sitting in the middle of a petrol pump station and the petrol pump station had no customers nor did it have any other staff working there – it was deserted. So this very smartly dressed guy who was armed to the hilt would have been sat there for hours and hours sweating his b.lls off. Hmmm…

My Life Crashed…

bamboo hut on the beach in the Philippines My Life Crashed...In a sense, this post is a re-intro to my blog since I’ve been AWOL for weeks now.

There have been some big changes taking place in my offline (and online) life, which is why I’ve been absent. What’s more, over the past week or so, I’ve been pretty much unable to get online, which certainly does not aid my business. Fortunately that issue is now remedied.

I don’t want to go into too much detail right now but put it this way – I’ve spent the last 3 years living in Kuching, in Malaysia, having left the shores of the United Kingdom. Well, that now is no longer the case. I have parted company with Malaysia, and now want to move onwards in pursuit of fulfilling the “next” stages of my dream – the internet marketing dream that is.

What does this mean?

Well, slowly but surely, I’ve come to the realization that making more and more money online simply puts more and more pressure on my butt to make more and more money online. Its like a vicious circle.

You start out by making 10 bucks in a month.

You raise that up to making 100 bucks a month.

Then you are looking at 10 bucks per day.

Then, up to 30 bucks a day and starting to approach a full time online income. Seems like a whole lotta fun at this stage and things are getting exciting!

50 bucks a day comes and goes…

80 bucks a day…

100 bucks per day – oh yeah baby!!

150 bucks a day…

200 a day… on and on and on and on…

Being More by Doing What You Love

Wealthy Life in Monaco 300x225 Being More by Doing What You Love I want to touch on this subject once more – minimalism – because its troubling me, and if I’m honest with myself – its something that has troubled me for many many years.

I don’t want to bore the pants off you. After all, this blog was originally set up as a “make money online” type blog. But I did change the domain name over from Affordable SEO Tips to the current name because I wanted to discuss much more about life in general.

After all, some people dream about achieving a life style like mine and I can understand exactly why – my life is a MASSIVE improvement on what it was and has been over the past 10 years or so. I have a great life now.

No boss to answer to other than myself (I’m a hard task-master however). No precise time schedule when I have to “work”. Living in the tropics of Malaysia brings with it a sense of joy and fulfilment on a daily basis. And yes – I can sit by the outdoor pool every day of the week whilst I work online. I doubt I’d get much done and I’d sweat me knackers off, but I’m sure you understand the principle.

But there is still something that bothers me most days – this constant push for more.

FLEECED!

The title says it all, really. A writer who has been with me now for about 18 months and who has done some really good work for me in that time took it upon herself to fleece me.

What I mean by that is – she decided to offer my work to her cousin in return for payment, without informing me she was doing so. Her cousin then took a short cut and copied content that was already on the web, which was then sent back to me, or posted straight to my websites.

In all, I would guess there’s been about 30 or so articles that were sent to me which have turned out to be duplicated content. At 10 bucks an article, that’s a fairly hefty price tag to be paying for copied content, particularly so when you consider the fact that I could have been sued by the original content owners.

But what’s more – some of that content I’ve been trying to rank in Google.

Thus in other words, I’ve been investing a fair amount of cash trying to get this content ranked high in Google, and because its duplicated, the chances of ever ranking where I wanted it to rank are pretty much nil. Money down the drain, it could be said.

IMG 6039 Images for Affiliate Program and Life in Malaysia

I managed to escape the confines of the Malaysian jungle and am now back home, beavering away at replyng to emails and adding images for the Affiliate website – both for the slideshow and for your own use.

Please go to the Affiliate link at the bottom left hand side of the site and sign up for an account via PayDotCom if you have not already done so. If you have already done so, just log in to your PayDotCom account and you should see a number of images there, each of which has the html for you to copy past to your own site.

More images are coming shortly.

SideNote: I’m having problems with most of the images which are being placed on PayDotCom for affiliate use. Although the images are showing up, they are showing with a red “X” beside them, which is telling me there is something not quite right with the html code. Unless you are familiar with hmtl setup, it may be wise to wait until I am able to fix this (another PayDotCom support query has been sent) or else you may find yourself thoroughly frustrated when trying to correct this, like I currently am!

You are at full liberty to utilize any of the images that are on the actual website however.

There are now only 7 places left available to get on board to promote this first product via my own subscribers list, so do be sure to jump on board as soon as you can. Once those 7 places have been filled, I’ll be creating a waiting list. Should anyone drop out in times to come, then this list will be re-opened. But if you want to get involved now, I advise you take prompt action!

Later today, I’ll create a short video for anyone wishing to use the Build My Rank tool. I added in 4 posts just before I left for the jungle the other day and all have now been added “to the system” and have been indexed in Google – all range from a Google Page Rank of 1 to 3, so that should add a nice bit of link juice to my chosen keyword phrases.

Just briefly – I had a great time in the jungle, albeit never saw much in the way of IMG 6041 Images for Affiliate Program and Life in Malaysiaanimal life other than behind bars in a zoo (I’m not at all a fan of this – you see orang utans (Malay for forest man), wild cats, hornbills and the like, couped up in relatively small cages. And I don’t see that there is too much in the way of educational value either. To my mind, its more animal cruetly mixed with a bit of human greed, than anything).

The weather was not conducive to too much trekking, which may have been just as well because I’m much more of a “pen pusher” these days and I doubt I’d be up to miles and miles of climbing mountains, whilst dealing with mosqitoes and leaches as well as watching over-head for poisonous snakes falling on my head.

One thing that did strike me more than ever though. We visited a fish market which is situated right beside the largest river in Sarawak (Sungai Kuching). This is mainly fished by local Malay people. It is becoming more and more apparent to me that these people live a day to day existence – very much different to what we are now used to in the western world.

IMG 6045 Images for Affiliate Program and Life in MalaysiaWhat I mean by that is – the folks go out in their boats, catch their daily take of fish, lobsters, crabs, tiger prawns, squid and so on. They then bring back their haul and sell it there and then from their market stalls, set up on the river bank. No middle men involved. No business contracts to sign.

Once all the catch has been sold for that day, they retire to a very simple life with families and friends – in simple houses painted all colours of the rainbow, many of which are built on stilts so as to provide some safe haven from the almost inevitable flooding during the rainy season.

Even grandmothers, grandfathers and young children get involved in the daily activities. Its a hive of activity, at least for part of each and every day.

Little Malay girl

But in amongst this hive of activity, I could not help but sense an inner peace. Simpleness that you don’t get over in the west, or within the cities of Malaysia.

It seems that these people could care less about gaining wealth in terms of financial income. They just want to live a fairly “chilled” life. No fighting, no real stresses and strains to deal with. Its like there is no real worry – life will take care of itself.

Everyone works together for the sake of the community, or in this case – the village, which is called “kampong” in the Malay language.

When I walked down the street enjoying the atmosphere and watching what was IMG 6047 Images for Affiliate Program and Life in Malaysiagoing on after enjoying a delicious meal which cost about a dollar US, I was patently aware that many people were staring at me.

Not that I look like elephant man or anything of the kind. I imagine its a rareity for these people to see an “orang putih” (white person) in their midst. And I wondered to myself, what it would be like to give up those dreams that I was taught to pursue from early childhood – money, money, money and more money, and go and live in a kampong for a while. No doubt much of my thinking would be changed for ever.

Although I did not take too many photos with my trusted tiny little pocket camera, a picture does tell a thousand words. So let these images speak for themselves. Hover your mouse over the image for captions (the current WordPress version is a big buggy).
