Free SEO and Internet Marketing Training (?)
Can We Collaborate to Make the Internet Maketing Dream Accessible to All?
Now my thinking is, trying not to get too far ahead of myself, but can it be possible to replicate this teaching of internet marketing and SEO, not just within Kuching, not just with what I am working on with Kevin, but why not around the whole world?
.
Golly gosh, such a massive huge dream that could possibly come true?
.
I would imagine that I will get a huge amount of emails from totally disgruntled SEO companies and individuals.
.
Well, its not that I want to diplace or upset anyone in this line of business. All I am trying to do is to help folks who have little money to invest, to be able to afford help by providing a free tutelage service, and thus I guess its merely complementing SEO companies and what they are trying to achieve. I am not one for treading on anyone’s toes (or am I?).
eBay Income Saves the Day in June 2010?
Funny thing here and this leads me to further speculation – a big jump in earnings for the 29th June with regards to eBay. Not that this will offset my over-all losses for the month much at all (down approximately 20% on last month), but it does go to prove to some extent that folks simply have not been spending much and that’s even on relevant seasonal stuff such as bicycles, fashion clothing for summer, barbeques etc.
That is of course a bit of a sweeping statement. It may be that some affiliates are seeing high sales at the moment, but not for me! And quite a few of my eBay related sites are geared to the early spring/summer season too.

Okay, with regards to my eBay sites. I used to buy them up at a rate of knots and then slap up my stuff and job done. Some of them I would SEO a bit, but not too much. It was more about quantity of web pages/sites rather than SEO. Quality? Hmmm, not so great, not so bad.
What a terrible way to be doing things however! Call yourself an SEO, Joseph!

So, of course, I am now re-thinking this strategy and am about to rip to shreds my eBay sites, just as I did my AdSense a few months ago. Sheeesh, I’ll be broke soon enough!
Where am I now at the End of the WF Challenge, and Where am I Going To?
What have I been up to since the conclusion of the Warrior Forum 40 Day Challenge?
Obviously I still have a look on the thread there occasionally, but I’m actually happy to see that there does seem to be a “conclusion” to it. I was not enjoying what was happening in the latter days and couple of weeks. It was not really constructive at all, and honestly I am happy to be able to move on now and progress with my own personal things which are not going to be in the public eye (except for a regular chat on the blog here, that is).

I’m in the process of hooking up with a friend regards to his business and getting that a far greater online presence than currently it has. He’s had a website for the business for the past 6 years, but its obvious when you see it that not much is happening there (hehe!).
I’m really hoping that we can push this forward as I can “smell” some really exciting things may well come about – namely good income and also other contracts besides!

And why would I choose this above other offers?
I Made a Mess of Working on an HTML – Based Site
I was approached to see if I would work on an html-based website for a small hotel. The site is up and running and looking good and ranks number one in Google, Bing and in Yahoo for its own name, which is to be expected, of course.
The thing is though, I was asked to make amendments to most of the pages rather than to optimize the site for far better keywords than the hotel’s own name. Hmmmm…. quite honestly working on html-based websites gives me the freaks. I work purely upon WordPress.org sites and leave html stuff well alone, except for fiddling around with some basic coding on my own sites where necessary.
The thing is though, due to this hotel being managed by my girlfriend and owned by her cousin (in part) I accepted the job, although thoroughly hesitantly, it has to be said. I’ve been asked before and always turned it down simply because this is not and nor will it ever be my thing! I do SEO – I do not work html sites!
Well, as it turns out, it was not a wise move for me to allow my girlfriend to talk me into this, and to allow my ego to take over where it would have been far better remaining in the back seat. I don’t have enough knowledge to be “fiddling” around with these sort of websites. I mean, even the thought of using FTP makes me shake with fear. Much nicer to go into a website using cPanel!
Anyways, she’s had to call in the “experts” after my attempts lead to complete failure. She’s angry, my ego is in total tatters, and I suspect my reputation within the family is rather lower now due to cousin finding out about my incapabalities. Shucks, I really do feel saddened by this.
I tried to get back into doing a bit of writing that a client had asked me to do. I used to write on the Warrior Forum and was actually rather good at it (something I CAN do successfully). I just can’t focus right now.
However, back to SEO. I set up a small website some 12 months ago about my travels to Malaysia – I was there for 10 weeks. The hotel I mentioned above is in Malaysia, where I now reside. I based my site upon 3 hotels that I had visited – like a review type of site. One of those hotels was indeed the one I am referring to now. As it happens, I am ranked in Google at 4th position for the name of the hotel, just behind the mighty TripAdvisor.com. I also rank very nicely for the other hotels that I reviewed – in all about 6 different keywords from this small site alone.
Furthermore, I rank second in Bing.com for the same hotel name (ahead of the mighty TripAdvisor.com!).
So I can’t help but think to myself – why not outrank my girlfriends hotel in both Bing and Google? Why not put a little bit more energy into doing this, thus proving to them all what I actually really do. Not playing around with webistes, that’s for sure! I DO SEARCH ENGINE OPTIMIZATION! I DO NOT PLAY AROUND WITH WEBSITES! Damn, it would, if nothing else, feel rather good to push my own site to the top, thus regaining some composure of my tattered ego!
Tour Bali Website – Project
Myself and my girlfriend went to Bali a few weeks back for a holiday – see the photo here – its called Tanah Lot Temple. Such a beautiful place! Anyhow, we took one day to travel around some of the Island and see some of the amazing sites there. Our driver was a great guy – very family orientated and very humble.
Me being me, I’m always thinking “business”. I was wondering how our driver – Wayan, got his customers. He told us in his broken English that he gets them all via a couple of hotels on the south of the island. His service is excellent actually. Its a very comfortable car he drives and he is a super driver – very safe and methodical. He told me that when he is too busy he gives some of his clients to his brother. Well of course, this sort of thing gets me thinking a bit. The old brain gets into gear…
But it was not until I checked out his website that I thought – aha!
Apparently, the website was designed a couple years back and given to him for free by some Dutch clients he had. When I queried him about it he told me he never gets any customers through the site. Never? Hot dang! Why not? Bali is rife for tourists, and his services are prime! Prime, prime, Prime!
Okay, so here’s the scenario. He asked me to re-design the site, which to be honest with you is not my forte. Sure, I can bang together a decent looking WordPress job with little to no frills but that’s about as far as it goes. I can’t really afford at the moment to employ someone else to do it – over-spent on my Bali holiday in addition to forking out on a rather nice television system just a few weeks back (oh, the joys in life!!). What to do here I’m wondering?
But, I had a quick check of the keyword scenario for Bali. Yup, not too bad. There are a few keywords I can rank the site for with little doubt, thus attracting some customers and making some “sales”, so to speak. Nothing too hot, but still, some decent pickings to be made.
This is not the sort of thing I have tackled before but it is too exciting to turn it down. Apart from that though, Wayan is such a deserving guy that I would be obliged to help him and his family, who quite honestly are far from being wealthy! I can see the site rising in the rankings and being excited more for the fact that this would be helping his business, rather than me making lots of money from it, albeit I would make something of course. Helping others such as Wayan is far more of a driving factor for me than is making a heap of money.
Don’t get me wrong though – I’m no real saintly figure as such. Saint Joseph, hehe. Its perhaps more of an egotistical thing going on. I love to impress people because I love to be told that I’ve done a great job. Oh shucks, I’m getting a bit deep and opening up a bit much. Actually, this is something I’ve only recently truly understood and come to terms with in myself. You know about Maslow’s hierarchy of human needs, right? This one must be kinda high on there – the need for positive feedback from fellow humans. It is a true need indeed! Its a driving factor. A huge motivator!
I’ll keep you posted about this one – this project – the Tour Bali website. Wayan is not going to be paying me for my work (which right now would have been a most welcome thing!). But the potential is there to make this joint venture truly workable, and for me, it would be a good passive income for possibly years to come.
Do leave me your thoughts about this please! Cheers!
