I Made a Mess – Google Dumps us Down the Rankings!

Time for a quick post I’d say!

Well, guess what – we made a mess of it, so I can put that planed windsurfing holiday to bed for now because I am no longer jumping up and down for joy

Who’s we?

Me and Chris is “we” – my young protege (for want of a different word) who hails from Texas in North America and is aiming to achieve an income of over $4,000 within 12 months from a start of zero.

Previously, in a post towards the end of last month, I was shouting my big gob (mouth) off about him making $4,600 for last month, which would have been 8 months into the project – a full 4 months shy of our target date.

Well, we/ I got our/ my come-uppance and guess who is responsible… Do I hear you say “Google”?

You got that right!

In actual fact, not quite – its ME who is responsible and not Google. Its me who is responsible and not Chris. Me, Me, Me!

I’m supposed to be the “tour” guide. I’m supposed to be leading by example, but fact is, I took my eye off the ball, very much down to the reason that I was happy to shout my mouth off about how well it was all going, and also partly because I was and am so busy with many other aspects to my business. So the blame lays at my door step – not Google’s and not Chris’ either.

So, what went wrong?

Good question!

Our top earning site got dumped from the rankings! And believe me when I say top earning, I mean TOP EARNING. I think that site was making around half and perhaps a little more of our total monthly haul. They say to never put all your eggs in the one basket. Well, we don’t, but its just panned out that way is all.

My communication with Chris got to the point of us both emailing each other about how we were going to invest our money in the months and years to come. Where it would have been wiser to be focusing on who was doing what with regards to working on the websites.

I would firstly like to say thanks to Sunil for the guest blog post about how to improve your website traffic using Google Images. A very educational and insightful post, and I hope you enjoyed it as much as I did!

There is much more to life than simply the making of large sums of money. Living life on your own terms is more important to many people, than earning a whopping income! Nevertheless, this short post is more focused on the income for the time being, rather than the lifestyle aspects of internet marketing, which is quite extra-ordinary in itself!

Today’s brief post is a quick update on progress with Chris – the young gentleman from Texas who is in fact at full time college studying religion – that would be the religion of making money online .

You may know that at the end of last year, I teamed up with Chris to try to improve his internet marketing income, using SEO to increase profits. Well, that was not the difficult part, because up until December of last year, Chris was making very little – the occasional website sale and nothing much more than that.

Here we are just past mid August – some 7.5 months or so after we got together and started working on our challenge – I was going to coach Chris to take his income from close to zero, to over $4,000 a month, within a 12 month period. How are we faring?

Internet Marketing Coaching Services and SEO Services

I’ve had quite a few requests for internet marketing coaching off the back of that blog post yesterday. So, this obviously needs to be addressed because I rather like the idea. However, pricing of such a service is not necessarily so straight forward.

I know that when I was learning the ropes with regards to IM and SEO I was willing to invest quite a large chunk of cash each month, simply because I was dead set on being successful. Some months I’d be paying upwards of $1000 US on coaching and on glossy ebooks. However, I know not everyone has that sort of cash flow. And it would be a shame to disqualify anyone simply because they do not have the cash available to invest.

Now, let’s just focus on something for a moment, just to shed some light here.

Take Chris for example – my young Texan friend who was the spotlight of yesterdays blog post. A few months ago (almost a year ago), when he first began emailing me, he was making next to nothing from his online endeavors. He sold a couple of websites for a decent sum, but otherwise there was no real regularity to his income. Back in December we discussed at length the idea of getting together and I would coach him to make upwards of a certain sum each month, every month within a period of 12 months.

Originally that sum was to be $2,000 a month income. We have since upped that amount to target $4,000 a month from internet marketing by December of this year. At the moment, he invests perhaps $200 a month on tools and what have you. Not a large sum to pay when you are starting to reap the just rewards, is it? Fact of the matter is that both Chris and I know we will hit that mark, very possibly with some ease too.

How much is my time worth to you then?

Progress Update on Christmas Eve 2010

I’m now intent on setting a program up where I now live in Kuching, Malaysia, which will be along the lines of helping local people to work online to see a good income, given time and given perseverance. Even a mere couple of hundred dollars a month is good income for some folks here, if on a part time basis then that’s a real nice boost to a salary which may only be $200 a month for full time work anyways.

Imagine being able to double your income just by doing a few hours work a week.

For sure its possible I’m in the process of biting off more than I can chew. But at the same time there is the old saying “strike while the iron is hot!”. My intentions are good – I need to do this!

I approached Cyril Dason who is the front man of Sarwak Bloggers (an immesely capable and highly motivated and enthusiastic guy he is too! If I had a staff and needed a social media rep, then I would be strongly considering Cyril to do that job for me!) and I asked if it may be possible to gain some government funding, or some local company funding.

After all, this is going to benefit the local community so why not expect to see a support network coming from either local companies or the government? Why should it be up to me to invest all my own funds to see the betterment of the Kuching community at large? Am I not doing enough already by offering a huge amount of my time over the next year to hopefully ensure the success of those that are involved in this initiative?

I would have no issues in investing my own money in this. I just don’t have money enough to invest right now. But even if no backers come forth, I am thoroughly intent on going forward with this. After all, regular readers on this blog know full well that I am a headstrong, very stubborn, forward moving sorta bloke, don’t you?;-) And I intend very much to utilize those traits in this case too!

Maybe I should get more involved in politics. But no. I remember to some extent what was said to Tim Ferris (of “4 Hour Work Week” fame) by one of his friends who is an eminenent Doctor and more besides. When Tim mentioned to her that he would really like to pursue his doctorate and thus become a medical doctor on graduation, she said to him in return (after both parties had consumed wine to a copious degree) (sorry, I can’t quote exact words but I’ll try my best…) “Tim, I admire you for wanting to become a doctor, but you would be best served as remaining a “dark knight” so you can spread the word freely without having to worry about your own reputation being tarnished as a medical doctor”.

I am no Tim Ferris, as much as I admire the man! But I am motivated to do what I can to help some people to gain more control over their level of income and thus hopefully this will improve their standards of living.

I know for a fact that if someone had knocked on my door in days gone by and asked me would I be interested in learning how to make a very good living online with little investment involved, I would have well and truly jumped at the chance and my excitement levels would have been to sky high!!

I’m no politician anyhow, so that job would be out for me!

Okay, that’s enough on that subject – I don’t want to bore you all to tears, lol!

Unemployed With no Income! Can he Make a Full Time Living from Internet Marketing Within 12 Months?

Yes, you read the title correctly – I’m going to try and help a young man go from being broke (and almost literally broken) to making a healthy income within 12 months time, purely from internet marketing. And here are my reasons why…

As you may have been reading in my recent blog posts on here, I’m not contented with things as they are. In some ways I wish I could hit a fast forward switch and go forward – say, 4 to 6 months from now. Then get a “take” on things, and press the fast backwards switch and return to present day.

For obvious reasons I can’t do that (unless I was partaking in magic mushrooms or something of a similar ilk

But even though I am making progress financially with my online marketing efforts, I don’t feel I’m making progress mentally. I’m just that sort of guy, and I’ve regularly been afflicted with inner squabbles that never seem to settle down for too long.

No, that does not make me a “fly by night” sorta bloke. I do not go in for short term relationships and nor do I treat my friends with fleeting words of sweetness, only to let them down badly the next day. I suspect if I were like that, I’d be very deeply unhappy in this life! Constantly looking for something that’s never truly going to be there.

Let me give you the scenario, which will explain things better, I think.

A young man (age 39) who hails from Australia has been pestering me (in a nice way, of course…

) with a need for help with his own internet marketing efforts. He’s been trying for online success for as long as 10 years and really gotten no where with it. Wow! I think I would be suicidale by now if I’d been at this game for 10 years and made very little income from it!

Anyways, what with my own current dilemmas and inner disturbances, the timing is right for me to “lend a hand” so to speak. Thus my thinking was to help him out in various ways and ensure that he actually starts to see a regular income.

In fact, no. I have decided to try to teach him some ways to see a good income from internet marketing – what the world at large deems as a “full time income”, and not just teach him how to make some AdSense click thrus each day. So I’m going to plunge in with this and go swimming at the deep end, rather than just paddling at the shallow end.

So in this instance, its very much going to be a case that I’ll endeavour to teach Kevin how to catch the fish, rather than me catching all the fish and feeding him. Yes – I will be taking a very active part in the whole proceedings, but slowly and surely he will have to take responsibility for his own future gains, with me being much less hands on.

And this will include the financing of the project also. Given some time and given some success in making money, I will for sure be expecting Kevin to re-invest his own income rather than me continually doing so to line his pockets with gold at the expense of my own finances. (Yes, I’ll be the financier from the get go).

Of course there are going to be some folks out there who are going to say negative things. Cast me down for my motives. No matter how good and true those motives are.
