I’ve kept today’s post short since getting used to a new system can be confusing. Just ask me
Part 1 of the How to Get the Best from Google Plus series is here.
Business Account or Personal Account?
With a business Google Plus account you can set up one different page for each product that you wish to sell. So, if you have different niche websites all focused on different products, then you’d obviously set up a different Google Plus page for each product.
However, you can in fact set up different accounts that are for “personal” use and use each different account for each different product (or each different niche) you wish to focus on. This way, you only have to monitor a single G+ account. You set up different circles for each account.
Getting Backlinks
So, how do we get a whole huge stack of backlinks to our G+ posts in order to get top flight Google rankings in search?
Here is what we need to do.
Remember, you should be feeding your website’s posts through to your G+ account so that more and more people can see your work.
Down the left hand side of the G+ page in your account, find “Explore” and click on that.
There’s two ways of getting people to follow you (other than if they know you already or if you pay them
).
The first is to choose the “What’s Hot” category. Simply search through the list of what’s hot and find what’s appropriate to your niche. If its a quality article that interests you click on the +1 just below the article. Its wise to make a comment too and tag the name of the person in your comment. More details on tagging just below.
The other way to do it is to make a search using the search box at the top. That way you will find subject matter which is closer to your needs.
Now, if you choose to share a post on G+ what that does is to pass around to all the people who are on your G+ list. And if some of those people then share the same article with their list… Well, you get the point. Posts on G+ can go viral incredibly quickly indeed!
Directories: do a Google search for “google plus directories”. Adding yourself to directories allows people to find you more easily but it also provides a strong backlink to your G+ profile which in turn allows it to rank higher in search.
Get Added to Other People’s Circles
The goal here is to get added to other people’s circles. In other words, if you suck up to other folks who have sizeable circles then you’re doing yourself a favour
How do you get added to circles?
Comment on posts that you like in G+ on a regular basis. Also, if you use the “tagging” feature, it helps to get you noticed because the folks that you “tag” will receive an email to say you’ve done so.
What is tagging?
When you make a comment on someone else’s G+ post, you can tag their name in your comment. If you press the “+” key on your keyboard then start to type the person you are commenting about, then a box comes up with their name in it. Simply click on their name in the box to add the tag. See the image below on tagging.
For other people to see your G+ content, they have to add you to their circles and only then will everyone in their circles see your content. The more engaging you are with others, the more likely they will add you to their circles.
Linking to a G+ Post
If you want to send a link to a particular post out to others, you can copy the link – see the image below on how to do that. Click on the little downwards pointing arrow to get the option to link.
Ripples – ripples are a way to check how far a post has “travelled” on Google+. Again, have a look at the image below to see how to gain a graphical perspective on Ripples.
Live Webinars in Google Plus
You can actually do a live webinar using the Hangouts option in G+. I’m not sure if there’s a limit to the amount of people you can invite, but its totally free and the quality seems to be pretty good too. Hangouts – check the left hand side of your Goog+ account for Hangouts.
Finally for today – don’t forget to add me to your Google Plus Circles, will ya!

I know most of us are saturated with so many social sites (Facebook, Twitter, G+, Pinterest, etc).
However, any reader of your blog knows how much Google likes to dominate the game. They’ve dominated the “Search” game for many years now, and through G+ they want to dominate -or at least threat Facebook- on the social side of this business.
Being on G+ is easy (let’s say that it’s not high maintenance) and the rewards are big. Not being on G+ is a huge mistake.
Good calling of attention, Joseph.
Thanks Cristina. Yes – overcrowded it is! Just like the make money online niche. I get the impression that even though the make monney online folks are usually well ahead of the game, very many of them/us are way behind on Google Plus. Hopefully these posts will serve as something of an eye-opener for the bulk of my readers.
I think my biggest problem is that I have very few contacts! I don’t even have a personal facebook account (I hate facebook).
But I have Google+…I just don’t know how to get hooked up with people etc. It’s like having no followers on twitter etc…whats the point then?
Any advice on how to get interested contacts or in circles or whatever would be great
Jim, you have to be pro-active. In other words, you have to start following other folks and commenting on their stuff before you’ll see reciprocation. You have to know why you are doing it though or else it becomes a slog and then you’ll find that you can’t be bothered any longer.
Jim,
it’s very easy to get a few contacts to start on G+. People usually follow you back, so start searching for people with your same interests or in your industry.
Don’t get overwhelmed. G+ is not like Facebook.
And I’ll add to what Cristina says here – the main purpose for us as internet marketers to be utilizing Google Plus is for its incredible SEO value (in addition of course to the social value, which is the obvious additional benefit) which will become more apparent the more we use Google Plus. You can gain some very strong backlinks to your sites if you invest time on G+ which goes hand in hand with the fact that you’ll also be seeing good traffic to your sites too – exactly what Google are wanting.
I’m sticking my kneck out a bit here, but I think that with Google Plus alone you could probably forget about SEO as we know it now. If you create a number of popular Google Plus accounts which link to your websites, you’ll possibly see enough strength from this to gain top flight rankings for many highly competitive keyword phrases. You have to learn how to harness this power, which is precisely the reason why I’m writing up the current blog post series. My intent is to pave the way to a greater understanding of how we can use Google Plus very much to our advantage.
There are not many webmasters who understand this yet, which gives us a great early advantage.
I’d really like to know more about G+ as a SEO tool, since I’m not very much interested on the social media side of it.
Well, there’s one problem with it the way it stands currently as an SEO tool Cristina. The backlinks you get from it are all “stupid”. Like this…
https://plus.google.com/u/0/114339448957237162346
Useless for SEO.
But I hear that folks are developing software to change this nonsense so that you can insert your keywords of choice. I presume Goog will also do that too once they develop their systems a bit more.
That’s the kind of information I want to learn about. Obviously there’s not much now. Hopefully in the future they develop something like you said.
But I was also thinking of the weight that G+ shares might have in the algorithm. We know as a fact that social media activity is kept in account by Google.
The weight that G+ shares have on rankings. I’ve not yet gained first hand knowledge about this but with all my recent learning I would say its going to be a lot of weight conferred. As I mentioned, I think G+ could spell a change to how we SEO in Google – its that strong.
i agree with christina. i think that it’s great for sharing things, but i’m very keen to learn more about it in terms of seo. great work jo.
I’ve spent hours and hours this morning tinkering around with this “thing” Brendan. Gee – this series of blog posts is such a time suck! There’s good reason though why I’m investing the time. I had wanted to get the next post up shortly but I’ve got quite a few other things to complete including a podcast with the AdSense Flipper guys (that will be live sometime in about a week). No rest for the wicked.
Oh yes, I heard on the AdSense Flippers podcast last week that they were trying to schedule an interview with you. Looking forward to that.
Yeah, the live event will be tonight Cristina – in about ten minutes time. Wish me well, won’t ya…
Of course, good luck Joseph. But you don’t need it. Justin and Joseph are great guys!
The poddie was good fun – nice and relaxed. I think this will go live on their site within the week. I’ll keep you posted about that though.
Good to hear.
Looking forward to it.
