If I could swear vulgarity then maybe now would be the moment! And why? Cos I’m battling with link coding for the Twilight Posterz site which I don’t enjoy at all and I’m rubbish at cos its too logical for my illogical and small brain.
But, I hear you say, you got your programmer to work it out, right?
Yes, but the problem is now that even though the links are all directing to AllPosters website, and to the specific posters too, which is cool, they do not have my affiliate link in them. Thus no commission for any purchases.
I’m not spending any longer on it though. I hate it with a vengeance!

Thus onto something else a bit more up my tree.
I’ve just been asked a question by a young lady over on the Warrior Forum Challenge thread about article marketing. So I thought rather than me answering it over on there, I’ll just bring the question over to here and provide my take on this subject. So here is the question from Aira…

QUESTION (and other comments for fun besides)
Hi Joseph,
I’m not on a 9-5 job. I am also working on my Internet marketing efforts. But you know, time management is really a very important thing to have in this industry.
Quite surprising to see you reply so fast. Are you watching this thread?
I agree with all you said about article marketing. It is what I call grunt work which I would rather outsource.
By the way, what can you say about duplicate articles in article marketing? I am pertaining to submitting the same article in multiple article directories. Seems like there is a debate on this topic.

ANSWER
Here is Wikipedias take on what “duped” means… (I just thought I would procrastinate a bit more this morning!)
Dupe may refer to:
- Someone who is deceived
- Duping, practice of exploiting a bug in a video game to illegitimately create duplicates of unique items or currency. A player can get banned from the game if he/she is discovered to use duped items.
- In mimicry, a signal receiver or dupe is the organism which is ‘tricked’.
- A duplicate, often of a photographic image.
-
Here is my take on duping content with specific regards to article marketing…
It is MY TAKE so please, if you disagree, all well and good. I do not trust there is any absolute evidence for this, and as such everyone’s opinions are somewhat open to argument.
-
You know how newspapers duplicate content and yet they are very, very popular? Well why not be this the same online as it is offline?
In fact it is, if you submit a press release online, you do not change the article each time and then submit to the next press release website, do you? Is there a penalty for this?
Yes and no, actually.
-
I suspect that Google will happily see your first article (or highest regarded – as in being the one you submitted to ezinearticles.com (if we’re talking article directories) being the “highest regarded”) as the one it “prefers” and the one you get the hottest backlink for your site.
However, that is not to say that the other duplicates do not count. I suspect you will still get your backlinks counted, albeit they may not have quite the punch that the ezinearticles backlinks have. (This really is the same thing as when drawing backlinks from the same IP address time and time again – you do get a thumbs up for it, but the biggest thumbs up will come from the first backlink).
-
Don’t forget also that your submitted dupes will be scraped by other webmasters and mistresses so you get more kudos that way too. A link is a link, after all, even though its been “watered down”. And it is still a quality link thus I would doubt very much that Google, in their drive for sheer quality in all respects, would count you down due to this.
There is no real wrong-doing in dupe content, just that the backlinks there-of will not be as powerful as one would have wished.
-
So you gotta work it out for yourself here ladies and gents.
Is it worth re-hashing old work to avoid the dupe content scenario? Is it worth either really slogging at the grunt work and re-writing by hand every single article you want to submit to a directory? YOu can of course use a spinner which is a great way to avoid much of the grunt (or outsource if you can afford the bills).
Or would you prefer to write only the single article and submit that as dupe content to all your chosen directories? Thus cutting down the work-load for sure, but at the cost of your backlinks being not so powerful as they would be should you submit unique quality articles every time.
That is your own decision.
I know which I prefer…
-
I’m not sure if that makes things more hazy or more clear regards dupe content Aira. Its hardly a clear-cut subject matter. What’s your thoughts (everyone’s thoughts please!) regards to this?

Hi Joseph,
Thanks for this one. I want to tell you about why I thought about this question. Just a brief background.
I just received advice from my mentor that this is actually okay (I mean submitting the same article to different article directories). Not that I don’t believe him (or maybe I did not). I was just unsure on what to do.
I guess your second opinion has confirmed that it really is okay.
To All: But I will suggest that if some of you people want to submit to multiple article directories, do so but prioritize Ezinearticles.com (Unfortunately, they are really that special). After approval, you can resume submission to the other article directories.
Keep the great posts coming Joseph!

Hi Aira, thanks for responding to my response!
Yes, it is okay for sure, but its sensible to “try” to measure its worth. It could be worth the effort to set up a couple of blogs or something – just a couple of pages each – maybe an AdSense based product related site – whatever.
Go for a relatively easy long-tail. Try ranking one with technique A (the same article submitted to 50 directories (whatever); technique B (a different article with the same keyword phrases in the bio submitted to 50 directories – the same directories as in Tech A).
See how it goes and gauge results that way. I may do it myself some time.

Yes, ezinearticles.com is the Daddy of the directories cos Googie loves them and has done for a long while too. And cos they are trumped up about dupe content its wise to do what you say – submit there first and to the others second (if your content is the same or similar that is).
Here’s something to mull over though. I found that when I scraped an article from ezinearticles database and then did a re-write I needed to ensure an absolute miniumum of 60% unique quality to the scraped article. That is the absolute minimum I found – sometimes it was up towards 65% before they would accept it.
However, if I scraped an article from another article directory which was not also a part of ezinearticles database, then the unique content level was actually quite a bit lower. I can’t provide exact stats but 50% unique content (I’m sure rather less) over the scraped article passed for me with flying colours!
Thanks again Aira!
Hey there! Dropping in a couple two cents.
Ezine Articles is fantastic, no doubt. But hubpages have been known to rank (AND to actually get page rank) very well, too, and there is no wait.
So… that’s just something to think about. I’d suggest doing two campaigns. One with submitting your article to ezine articles, wait for their approval (and for it to index), and then submit your article again (I prefer to vary it, but I guess you don’t have to) to multiple other, smaller article directories.
Then, on a different site, test again but this time, submit your article to Hubpages instead and wait for it to index. Then submit your article again to multiple other, smaller article directories.
My personal preference is to “rank” my original article by sending the back links there. I just find that I’d rather the sub-par (like PR0 and such) links be going to my supporting sites, rather than directly to my site.
Cheers!

Hi, I’m very interested in Linux but Im a Super Newbie and I’m having trouble deciding on the right distribution for me (Havent you heard this a million times?) anyway here is my problem, I need a distribution that can switch between reading and writing in English and Japanese (Japanese Language Support) with out restarting the operating system.
Hi Monica, I have no idea about Linux I’m afraid, nor do I have much idea about speaking Japanese. I think you may want to try out another blog or forum to find the answers to this puzzle.
Thanks for stopping by anyhow and regards.
Joseph
Hey Tia the BizChichBlogger!
I now steer clear of Hubs for backlinking purposes because even though I have about 14 of them I can never get them ranked high enough in their points system to get that all treasured backlink to become a do-follow attribute. But maybe you have a “secret” ingredient there Tia and if so I must have it from you at all costs, hehe!
I fully agree on your technique to send all the potential sub-par links back to an article (or a Web 2.0) which then links to your own site. Its a very neat little trick that can get you a really beefed up backlink.
Did you get my last comment on your blog re your post on “spam”, Tia? I’m not sure if it managed to get through the system. It was a very fun article and oh-so true. I have a Christian Lacroix Shoes comment on this blog too, which I have left to make the blog look that much more popular. Every comment counts! Haha
Hey Joseph – Yes! I did get the comments, I believe. Check back though, in case you notice one is missing.
HAHAHA yes it’s very tempting to leave some of the SPAM in there. For me it really depends on where the URL is going. If it’s OK and not too cheesy, full of un-blockable popups, or looks like its full of malicious code, then I consider it. I don’t always, but sometimes. Thing that annoys me is that it’s a complete win for them, and only, say, a relatively perceived win for us.
For sure Tia, for sure! Most spam is just filled out with url after url after url… Absolute waste of time. I don’t see the point of it. I guess on some unused blogs that do not use something like Akismet, it gets thru though, hence the reason for doing it in the first place. But your post was really funny, so spam has actually been worked around to see it from a different point of view there – laugh at it more often rather than get annoyed when it arrives on our blog. Inevitably it will, time and time again!
Now Tia, what’s all this about you doing the blog writers comp? I said I will support you on it and so I will – would love to see you grabbing hold of the $3k prize! What do I have to do to help you out?
Cheers!
Joseph
Nice gravatar by the way! I had to get Andrew Rondeau to show me how to get mine sorted out – just the other day actually. I was one of those folks who was always wondering how to get my little teeny mug shot up on all those websites that I left a comment on. Andrew to the rescue!
Joseph! I wrote a whole post about how to get your avatar to show up! LOL To date, it’s the 2nd most popular post (on my blog, that is) in terms of search engine traffic. Apparently, a lot of people do not know how.
The contest, yes! All you do is to go http://comluv.com/tutorials/blogging/the-4-irrefutable-laws-of-blog-commenting/ and leave a comment, or pass it on through Twitter, or even write a little post about it. All of those things will help. I’d appreciate it.
I hope you like the post; I do. So many people are struggling with traffic and readership and yet they don’t so much as leave one single comment – ever! They don’t understand reciprocity, apparently.
Please do come back Tia and pop here the link to your post regards to the gravatar/avatar. You are right, it would appear that MOST people have no idea!
Agreed entirely! Many folks don’t comment and thus are missing out on a real opportunity to build regular visitors to their own blog or site. I missed out on this for quite a while too however, so I can’t criticize.
But, like you are doing (an excellent job too, it has to be said!), I am now trying to re-educate (or educate) other folks regards the real attributes about leaving blog comments on a regular basis.
Its fun for starters – so why not spend a bit of time doing what is really good fun and highly beneficial at the same time!
I’ll go check out that link right this moment Tia!
Thanks indeed!
Jo
PS. your new look blog is cooool!
Ok, I just visited your great post via the comment luv link Tia and have commented (x 2), Stumbled and Delicioused the post also. What else can I do for you please? Let me know and I’ll be happy to oblige!
Hey Joseph – Well, I’ve only been at hubpages for a week, and already my profile score is 82, and 2 of my hubs are scored above 75, with a third scoring at 74 today so will probably be at 75 tomorrow. Apparently you must score above 40 and your hub must score above 75 in order to remove the nofollow attribute.
I haven’t done anything with the two dofollow hubs YET but I do plan to build a Tucson City Guide using the Woo Themes City Guide theme, and you can bet safely that I’ll be linking to it from those hubs as soon as I do. I’d actually prefer to get them to a PR1 or PR2 before I do that.
The key? Well, first I created some personal hubs – just photography ones. I made friends that way. Then I created a really useful travel guide one, and then a second restaurant one. None of my hubs are self-serving, and I think that is key. I use a real profile and I follow people as often as I can, and do a lot of voting and commenting.
For me, it’s actually a lot of fun and I think that’s why it is working so well. Sadly, I am actually starting to like it more than blogging because the community is so receptive and active.

Yes Tia, that’s what its all about with Hubney, quality counts or your out! And I would think that most of us who are intent on getting Hubney backlinks are not at the same time intent on putting in hours of ‘labouring’ in trying to really spruce up the glitzy new Hubney.
That’s where the managers of Hubney pull one over on the typical internet marketer.
Actually, you made a very good point and I quote you here… “For me, it’s actually a lot of fun and I think that’s why it is working so well. Sadly, I am actually starting to like it more than blogging because the community is so receptive and active”.
Hence you have gone out your way to create great Hubneys and thus you are indeed receiving in return your just rewards – the ultimate prize of a do-follow backlink.
Mind you, seems to me that its becoming the scenario whereby you are not so concerned any longer about the great backlink from Hubney, but are much more concerned about your Hubneys and about the Hubney community at large. Admirable Tia, admirable! T’is what the internet should be about, after all!
May I ask Tia, do you make a reasonable income from your Hubneys? If not, then how do you justify spending so much time within the ‘H’ community, at the expense of actually bringing in the readies, the greenbacks?
Its not mean’t as a personal question there, just something I have to get “right” in my head. Its great to get all sorts of opinions and ideas after all, I know you agree.
I think integrating a lot of social networking into the building up of a great web site/blog is a fantastic way to progress – it makes it oh so much more fun than simply pure SEO’ing with backlinks from the likes of article directories. Such friendless places they are!
Thanks for coming by my dear and I look forward to seeing the Tucson City Guide in the near future!
